Mother & Daughter Empowerment Day-treat June 9, 2019

For girls ages 10-16 and their mom or female caregiver

Spend the day with an intimate group at cosy Easton Hall.  Learn practical skills on mother-daughter communication, feeling and defending boundaries, exit strategies for bad situations, assertiveness training for handling bullies and mean girls, and practical sexual assault prevention and self-defense.

This day-long retreat is ideal for mothers and daughters aged 10-16 years old.  Could it be you and your niece?  Sure.  You and your twin nieces?  Absolutely.  You, your daughter, and her best friend?  You betcha.  “Mother–daughter” is more about roles than genetics or genitalia.  If you’re a mother figure with a daughter figure, you are most welcome!

Your instructors are Anya Manes of talkingaboutsex.com and Dara Connolly of Kurukula Women’s Empowerment.

Anya is an educator and parent coach, who has developed fresh and practical techniques to teach healthy boundaries, bystander intervention, and exit strategies.  Anya curates and shares the best information available on preventing sexual abuse and assault, educating kids about porn and media messages, and helping parents align with their kids to become their best allies.

Dara is a certified black-belt instructor, author, and award-winning educator. Her confidence-building presentations help women find their voice to speak up in relationships and live confident, fearless, and safe. Dara’s presentations combine empowerment (inner-strength) with practical safety skills (outer-strength). She is an anti-bullying and assault prevention expert, author of Someone You Know, and creator of Jerky Johnny- an Amazon top 100 game.

The flow of the day is carefully crafted to include safe spaces, impactful workshops, a wholesome lunch, space and time to learn and bond with peers.

Praise

“I found Anya’s workshop extremely helpful. It created a space to think about important and sometimes abstract concepts, such as comfort and boundaries, in a concrete and tangible way. I feel that I can provide clear examples and define comfort and boundaries in a manner that my children will grasp. Anya facilitated a very rich discussion and provided strategies for assisting adolescents and children to verbalize their boundaries.”
– Beatriz Reyes

“Dara draws on her passion and gifts to help women and girls stand in their power, even when confronted with a bully or an aggressive adversary. After attending a session, I became aware of how physically tentative I felt standing firm and holding my ground, even in the face of ‘practice’ aggression! I highly recommend women seek out an experience with Dara’s body of work. It could make all the difference when confronted by bullying or aggression.”
– Andrea Willoughby, Massage Therapist, Therapeutic Touch Practitioner

“Dara is a master at what she does. She’s not only passionate, she cares. In Kurukula women’s empowerment, I learned valuable lessons in assertiveness, overcoming timidity, and also powerful methods to alleviate dangerous predator situations. Being a senior, I have a life-time of negative input to overcome from bullying as a child to verbal abuse in the work place. With role-play and a touch of humor, Kurukula has impacted me strongly toward being a more confident person in all situations. It can do the same for you. I highly recommend it.”
– Sara Thomas, Artist, Screenwriter, Young Living Essential Oil Distributor

“My daughter attended your Boundary Setting Workshop last night & came home so excited. She told me all about the class & how much she learned from you. She will be applying what she learned at school to even friends that can be not so nice. On the car ride home she gave me all sorts of examples how to handle situations when girls are being mean. She discussed body language, how to verbalize firmly & what to say. It was amazing! The lessons you taught her are invaluable. Thank you for a wonderful class. She thoroughly enjoyed it!”
-Suzanne Sterling, Mother of an 11 year old Kurukula workshop participant

“I can’t help but want to smile, because now I feel empowered!”
-Miriam, age 11, Kurukula workshop participant
